We Challenge the Status Quo with Groundbreaking Technologies

Stephen P. Weeks, Ph.D. is a senior technical and business development executive with over thirty years of domestic and international experience in technology commercialization. His qualifications include technical program development and implementation, business planning, strategy development and launch, organization and staff development, oversight of manufacturing capacity installation, design and launch of quality assurance systems, and direct client interaction. He is also experienced in technology transfer, technology licensing, and formulation of intellectual property protection strategies.

Dr. Weeks has held senior management positions at British Petroleum, AT&T Bell Labs (now Lucent Technologies), Competitive Technologies, Inc., and First Principals, Inc handling business ventures, technology transfer, and start-up operations.

At Bell Labs, a world class industrial research organization, Dr. Weeks conducted basic and applied research and development across a broad range of topics associated with electronic communications, development and technology transfer support to AT&T's primary semiconductor integrated circuit manufacturing location.

At BP in the UK, then the world's third largest oil company and a major international industrial concern, Dr. Weeks served as Business Coordinator for BP Ventures, where he directed commercial applications development and technology transfers to various business units. He provided a direct interface for global research management with business units in BPV, with universities, with other external research and commercial organizations, and with diplomatic commercial attaches. He resolved technical and commercial risk issues associated with the development of new technologies, and conducted rationalization studies of the BP Ventures research portfolio.

At BP in the US, Dr. Weeks was Research Manager of the Advanced Materials Laboratory, responsible for near-term development of electronic ceramics, advanced composite materials and NDE, and materials for molten metal processing. He was responsible for launching manufacturing capabilities for advanced ceramic materials for electronics applications at a BP subsidiary, including ceramic powder preparation, green forming, and furnace operations. Dr. Weeks was then appointed Manager of the Program Support Services Division, directing the planning and control function for all US research centers, including financial planning, reporting and analysis, accounting and accounts payable, project economics, techno-economic appraisal, and commercial development.

In his last position at BP, Dr. Weeks operated the Shared Technologies Division as a business unit, where he directed delivery of technical programs, services, and consultancy, including Analytical, Environmental, Engineering Computing, and Applied Sciences, to BP America businesses and to third party clients. He led this 200-person technical services unit through significant reorganization and change of focus and strategy.

As Vice President at 5iTech, LLC, Dr. Weeks is responsible for technology evaluation, commercial assessment, licensing, partnering, capital development, technology acquisition, and technology and manufacturing aspects of start-up launches. He has consulted with DuPont, Mobil, Brother, Kodak, Lucent, Welch Allyn, Sandia National Labs, Honeywell, and other global corporations.

Dr. Weeks holds a Ph.D. in Solid State Physics from the University of Pennsylvania, and serves as chair of the Cleveland chapter of the Licensing Executives Society. He is fluent in German (written and spoken) and French (written), and has published 17 Journal articles, 32 Conference presentations, and one book chapter.
